LIFE LxAquila in numbers

  • 16 breeding pairs of Bonelli’s Eagles monitored
  • 9 nestlings of Bonelli’s eagle tagged and tracked with GPS/GSM devices
  • Over 60 entities engaged in the stewardship network for the peri-urban Bonelli’s Eagles
  • 4 land stewardship agreements with private landowners have been signed, which include specific conservation measures for a 20-year period and covering 108 hectares of critical habitat for the species’ survival; an additional 11 draft agreements, covering a further 960 hectares, are currently under evaluation by landowners
  • Over 36100 km of patrol routes implemented to prevent environmental crime
  • Over 85 pylons of dangerous powerlines retrofitted to avoid electrocution
  • 56 hectares of shrubland habitat have been managed for fire prevention in two high fire-risk Bonelli’s Eagle territories
  • 52 hectares of refuge areas (where hunting is prohibited) and 92 hectares of sowing areas for cereal crops have been established to support red-legged partridges and wild rabbits populations, key prey species of the Bonelli’s Eagle
  • 9 participatory workshops with stakeholder groups (e.g., land planning and management for local administration, forest management, nature tourism, hunting management)
  • Over 13,500 students engaged in the Environmental Education Programme in schools
  • Over 700 people have participated in activities organised for the local community (e.g., ‘Eagle Days’ walks, LxAquila Festival, interpretative visits to TNM)
